For the last few months, all I am reading about in the SEO sphere is “Google penalties” and sites that have been turned down due to low quality, SPAMMY links and other type of such activities that somehow manipulated the search results!
The question that pops up in my mind now is, why there are tons of folks building low quality SPAMMY links when it is almost a year to the 1st Panda update and I believe it changed the way SEO was done entirely, didn’t it?
So whose fault is it?
In all honesty, it is fault of the whole community and we all are somehow responsible of this damage. Yes! You, That One and even Me, we all are CULPRITS.
Fault of the SEO person (the end point):
I guess pointing the blame finger towards SEO person (subordinate) is the right thing to do after all he/she has been building all those low quality links from different forum, blogs and other scraps instead of researching and putting some more effort in constructing some high quality links for the website. He is the one who should be held responsible for compromising authenticity and quality to emphasize more on quantity of links.
But, wait why charge him, as he is supposed to follow instructions and work plan directed by his manager or team lead.
So, Managers and Team Leads?
Well I guess so, as it is their duty to audit work performance of their teams. They are responsible for researching all the latest trends of link baiting in SEO field to get positive results. If they are not doing their job right and not researching the stuff then they must be considered as real people to be blamed.
But again! Not all Managers and Team leads can go wrong. No?
Then there could be two scenarios:
- It’s the pressure of the client
- May be they did their Job right but…
It’s Client’s Fault:
Well may be it really is the client’s fault. I mean if client does not understand and don’t even want to understand the scope of work or in case of un-practical deadlines (such as 3months to get all the keywords on the 1st page of Google or so) for only $300 a month, you can’t expect SEO person to be a saint. With $300 and this much of pressure, are you really expecting a quality work? I doubt if you will get any.
But there are many people who are very flexible and nice but then also Google penalized them!
Or is it the influencers?
Influencers are the one who publish tips, suggestions and tactics to help others in the SEO community in order make search a better place. But, what if these tip provided by influencers are recommending low quality tactics in a white hat wrapper?
Ofcourse not every post on internet could be true so now I guess I am in the roots and I know whom to blame! It’s the influencers who are not doing their job right that is eventually hurting the entire eco system!
But wait are you kidding me! Haven’t you come across blogs like SEOmoz, SEER, SEO Book, SEJ and many more? These blogs has been updating and recommending all the high quality stuff written by authentic influencers of SEO field that are proven ways to get high quality links!
Who is it then?
My point here is this can be a blame game that can play for long. We can either go the easier that is to hold someone else responsible for the damage and keep passing the blame to one another or instead, put an end to it right away and start taking responsibility.
I guess this is the best time to stop pointing out fingers on other and rather accept our mistake as I think we all are responsible for this damage. From the top-notch SEO influencer to the end player who is creating contents and links for a website, we all are somehow in charge!
Bottom line is even today if we are doing our jobs right, what about the mistakes we did in past. Did we ever look back and corrected them? I guess the answer would be no, as we have all forgotten them, but Google has not. Google has been keeping track of link records from very beginning so its better to check if your website link profile holds any of your previous mistakes that you haven’t corrected yet, if yes then correct them right away and save yourself from getting penalized.
